Recently I’ve been shooting a new image library for The Thali Cafe, a group of small restaurants and tiffin takeaways in Bristol. The guys at Thali have just launched their first ‘proper’ restaurant in Southville as part of their continued growth. Already a Bristol mainstay they also cater at festivals (I’ll be popping in to see them at Glastonbury tomorrow). It was (and still is) a lovely commission to take on, involving a loose editorial style as well as stylised food shots such as this. More details about the shoot after the break.
The lighting was kept really simple, a single head with a large softbox and, when needed, some reflectors to fill in shadows or give a nice finish on cutlery and plates. The key to the shoots was more in the styling, which was expertly handled by Bristol food stylist Alison Clarkson.
