In 2008 Bristol was made England's first cycling city. With the title came significant funding to improve and implement cycle schemes. Alongside the obligatory cycle lanes funding was also set aside to build and maintain trails across the city. One of the projects was for pump tracks, such as this one, to be created. In the 80s BMX heyday similar tracks were commonplace across the country but, after waning support, they have been regularly demolished. The great thing about pump tracks is that they take up relatively little space and can be built anywhere - as this track under a flyover demonstrates.
